I've imported an VirtualBox OVA file provided by a client to VMWare Workstation 14 on Windows 10. Ubuntu boots fine, but the console screen is very tiny and centered in the VMWare VM window. None of the settings I can find on the VM - including tweaking the display resolution to 1024x768 - seems to change this. I found a few postings online about how to fix this if using a GNome GUI but I'm just using bare bones console.

Any ideas?

This is what I see:

This question came from our site for system and network administrators.

  • BTW, this is on a Surface Book which has a high DPI display. But I don't have this problem on other VMs, including Linux VMs. I suspect it's something with the Ubuntu config from the import. The client suggested running it in VirtualBox but I have VMWare installed and prefer VMWare - but if the solution is VirtualBox, I can do that.
