This question got two parts, one specific, one vague.
The specific part
We (small team) are having a development node from which we regularly have to check logs on other hosts. To safe on typing time and having the same command independent on context (prod / dev / testing) I would like to introduce aliases.
We are also using ansible's command module regularly. I am sure that this problem is somehow solved in best practice settings (or do people like to type up the full apache log part as well?).
Is it best practice to do an bash alias to tail the log e.g. alias errorlog='ssh mynode tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log'
?
The vague part
If it isn't good practice what directions can you ṕoint me towards?
If it is good/best pratice, which aliases or tools do you use to solve that problem (especially in development / testing stages)?
PS
There is a question which hints at that people had similar ideas before me
