I am looking at using a 4 node Dell C6220 as a ZFS based virtualisation host. However I really need the disks to be directly visible to the host operating system.
By the look of the manual, these come with either an LSI 9265-8i, or a 9210-8i. (The manual also mentions a 9285-8e but the product code suggests that's for external disk connections).
As it's a bit of a more niche product I can't find much help online, but then I assume it's functionally very similar to just 4 standard Dell servers. I'm also struggling to even find if IT firmware is available as the Broadcom website doesn't seem to want to let me search for downloads.
Does anyone know if the controllers in this server pass through unconfigured disks by default, or if they can be flashed to IT firmware? I don't particularly want to have to buy one just to find out I can't access the disks without creating a hardware array.
