I have a pi with stretch installed. I am trying to synch its clock to a connected laptop time server. I have uninstalled ntp and chrony - as indicated in other similar posts - but I cannot set the timedatectl NTP sync "active".
I have tried already the commands "timedatectl set-ntp true" and "timedatectl set-ntp on" but neither works. the pi is not connected to the internet but to a laptop via ethernet cable. The PC can ping the pi. the pi can ping the router if connected to the network but cannot ping the laptop if connected directly via ethernet. I wonder whether this could be the issue but I do not know how to figure this out.
