O deserto do Kalahari é unha grande área semiárida e areosa no sur de África, duns 500.000 km². Ocupa o 70 % de Botswana, e partes de Zimbabue, Namibia e Suráfrica. Outras fontes estenderían a área do Kalahari ata os 2,5 millóns de km², incluíndo Gabón, a República do Congo, a República Democrática do Congo, Angola e Zambia.



Historia e características |


O nome provén da palabra tswana Kgalagadi, que significa gran sede. Só é árido de verdade no suroeste (menos de 175 m³ de choiva anual), o que o converte nun deserto fósil. As temperaturas estivais no Kalahari están entre 20 e 40 °C. No inverno, o Kalahari ten un clima frío e seco, con xeadas pola noite. A temperatura mínima media no inverno está por baixo dos 0 °C.
