O Instituto Smithsoniano ou Smithsonian Institution é un centro de educación e investigación que posúe ademais un complexo de museos asociado. Está administrado e financiado polo Goberno dos Estados Unidos, ademais dos fondos que recibe grazas a doazóns, vendas, concesións, licenzas para actividades e revistas.
