Tulkas é un personaxe ficticio do legendarium de J. R. R. Tolkien, que aparece na súa obra O Silmarillion. É un dos Valar, os seres anxelicais que custodian e gobernan Arda (o mundo no universo de Tolkien). Tamén se lle coñece polo alcume Astaldo, que significa o Valente.

Tulkas é descrito como un home de cabelo e barba dourados e cute rubia, que non precisa de cabalo, xa que é incansábel e corre máis rápido ca ningún outro ser[1]. Non lle interesan nin o futuro nin o pasado, e é o máis guerreiro dos Valar. Foi o último deles en descender a Arda para axudar aos demais na guerra que estaban a librar contra Melkor, o Vala maligno. Melkor fuxiu ante a súa chegada, co que comezou a Primavera de Arda.


Logo da creación das Dúas Lámpadas e de que os Valar estabelecesen a súa primeira morada en Almaren, Tulkas casou con Nessa durante un grande banquete disposto por Manwë. Despois adormeceu, momento que aproveitou Melkor para entrar na Terra Media sen ser visto[2].


De Tulkas dise que goza coa loita, usando só as súas mans como armas, e cos concursos de forza; que tarda en anoxarse mais que tamén tarda en perdoar; por iso foi un dos Valar que se opuxo á liberación de Melkor do seu presidio logo de este tentar conquistar o mundo. Dise tamén que aínda que non resulta útil como conselleiro, é un amigo rexo.
