A infertilidade é a incapacidade dunha persoa, animal ou planta de reproducirse por medios naturais. Nos seres humanos, a infertilidade pode describir a unha muller que non é quen de concibir ou que non é quen de levar o embarazo a bo termo. Existen varias causas biolóxicas, algunhas das cales poden ser solucionadas con intervención médica.[1] Os índices de infertilidade incrementaron nun 4% dende a década de 1980, principalmente relacionados con problemas de fecundidade polo incremento da idade.[2] Arredor do 40% dos problemas de infertilidade están causados polo home, outro 40% pola muller, e o 20% son o resultado de complicacións en ámbolos dous.[3]
