Background
I'm looking into migrating an app powered by a few separate services into the Google Cloud. My app is composed of 3 services hosted on a single domain and runs behind Cloudflare. I can use Cloudflare workers to route traffic to different places depending on the URL path, including an existing system that's set up on Heroku.
There are 2 Java-based web services I want to set up on Google Cloud. Both can handle many concurrent requests at once.
- A stateless app running on Play Framework (Java / JVM app)
- A stateful app running in Tomcat that requires session affinity
For app 1, it seems like App Engine Flexible is the best bet to get the most automation out of the box.
For app 2, due to session persistence, it seems like App Engine Flexible is not an option, so I'm looking to use Kubernetes Engine.
Question
App 2 and the combination of running both app 1 and app 2 is where I'm most unsure. Each app is available at distinct paths.
If I'm running on both App Engine Flex and Kubernetes Engine, how do I route requests to each app?
Is there a built-in way to have a central load balancer configuration that controls both apps, or would I have to treat them individually and handle routing externally (e.g. at Cloudflare Workers)?
