CORPUS IURIS CIVILIS ROMANI. 1583


Corpus iuris civilis je dnes obvyklé súhrnné označenie pre normy (zákony a zbierky) a výklady rímskeho práva, ktoré vznikli z iniciatívy byzantského cisára Justiniána I. najmä v rokoch 528–534.


Justinián I. dal kodifikovať (podľa mnohých skôr kompilovať) klasické rímske právo, ktoré bolo v tom čase zvulgarizované, čo bolo previazané aj s vtedajším hospodárskym úpadkom ríše. Najskôr aktualizoval zbierku cisárskych zákonov (Codex Theodosianus), čím vznikol prvý Codex Iustinianus (529). V roku 533 publikoval najvýznamnejšie dielo reformy, Digesta, systematizáciu názorov a diel rímskych právnikov klasickej doby, ktorá neskôr výrazne ovplyvnila právny poriadok väčšiny kultúrnych národov. Zároveň vydal učebnicu Institutiones Iustiniani. Napokon opäť revidoval Kódex, ktorý nazval Codex Iustinianus repetitae praelectionis (obyčajne sa však cituje ako Codex Iustinianus) (534). Kódex, Digesta, Inštitúcie a neskoršie zákony (Novellae) sú dnes spolu známe ako Corpus iuris civilis.
