യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻറെ പതാക.

യൂറോപ്യൻ വൻ‌കരയിലെ 28 രാജ്യങ്ങൾ ചേർന്നുള്ള സംഘരാഷ്ട്രമാണ് യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻ. 1992ലെ മാസ്ട്രീച്ച് ഉടമ്പടിയിലൂടെയാണ് ഈ ഏകീകൃത രാഷ്ട്രീയ സംവിധാനം നിലവിൽ വന്നത്. ഏകീകൃത യൂറോപ്പിനായി 1951 മുതലുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങളുടെയും പൊതുവേദികളുടെയും ഫലമാണ് യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയന്റെ പിറവി. യൂറോപ്യൻ വൻ‌കരയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ രാഷ്ട്രീയ-സാമ്പത്തിക ശക്തിയാണ് ഈ സംഘരാഷ്ട്രം.

ഏകീകൃത കമ്പോളം, പൊതുനാണയം, പൊതു കാർഷിക നയം, പൊതുവ്യാപാരനയം, പൊതുമത്സ്യബന്ധന നയം എന്നിവയാണ് യൂണിയന്റെ സവിശേഷതകൾ. പൊതുപൗരത്വം പോലുള്ള നയങ്ങൾ അടുത്ത ഘട്ടത്തിൽ നടപ്പാക്കുമെന്നു കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾതന്നെ അംഗരാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളിലെ പൗരന്മാർക്ക് യൂണിയനിലെവിടെയും സഞ്ചാര സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം അനുവദിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

ഉൾപ്പെടെ 28 അംഗരാജ്യങ്ങളാണ് യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയനിലുള്ളത്. മൊത്തം 43,81,376 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ വിസ്തൃതിയുണ്ട്. ജനസംഖ്യ 49 കോടിയോളം. യൂണിയനെ മൊത്തത്തിൽ എടുക്കുകയാണെങ്കിൽ മൊത്തം ആഭ്യന്തര ഉത്പാദനത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സാമ്പത്തിക ശക്തിയാണിത്. ഭൂവിസ്തൃതിയിൽ ഏഴാമതും ജനസംഖ്യയിൽ മൂന്നാമതുമാണ് യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയന്റെ സ്ഥാനം.

1952-ൽ ആറു രാജ്യങ്ങൾ ചേർന്നു രൂപം നൽകിയ യൂറോപ്യൻ കോൾ ആൻഡ് സ്റ്റീൽ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റിയാണ് യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻ ആയി മാറിയത്. ഈ ആറു രാജ്യങ്ങളെ യൂണിയന്റെ സ്ഥാപകാംഗങ്ങളായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നു. 1957 മുതൽ 1992-ൽ യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻ ഔദ്യോഗികമായി നിലവിൽ വരും വരെ യൂറോപ്യൻ സഖ്യരാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം വിവിധ ഘട്ടങ്ങളിലെ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കലുകളോടെ പന്ത്രണ്ടായി. ബെൽജിയം, ഫ്രാൻസ്, ജർമ്മനി, ഇറ്റലി, ലക്സംബർഗ്, നെതർലാൻഡ്‌സ്(സ്ഥാപകാംഗങ്ങൾ), ഡെന്മാർക്ക്, അയർലണ്ട്, യു.കെ., ഗ്രീസ്, പോർച്ചുഗൽ, സ്പെയിൻ എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളാണ് യൂണിയൻ ഔദ്യോഗികമായി നിലവിൽ വന്ന 1992-ൽ അംഗങ്ങളായുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. ഇതിനു മുൻപ് ഡെന്മാർക്കിന്റെ ഭാഗമായിരുന്ന ഗ്രീൻ‌ലാൻഡ് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം ലഭിച്ചതോടെ 1985ൽ കൂട്ടായ്മയിൽ നിന്നും പിന്മാറി.

യൂണിയൻ നിലവിൽ വന്ന ശേഷം 1995 ജനുവരി ഒന്നിനാണ് ആദ്യ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കൽ നടന്നത്. ഓസ്ട്രിയ, ഫിൻലൻഡ്, സ്വീഡൻ എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങൾ അന്ന് കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 2004 ജനുവരി ഒന്നിന് സൈപ്രസ്, ചെക് റിപബ്ലിക്, എസ്തോണിയ, ഹംഗറി, ലാത്‌വിയ, ലിത്വാനിയ, മാൾട്ട, പോളണ്ട്, സ്ലൊവേക്യ, സ്ലോവേനിയ എന്നിങ്ങനെ 13 രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ യൂണിയനിൽ അംഗമായി. 2007 ജനുവരി ഒന്നിന്‌ ബൾഗേറിയയും റുമേനിയയും യൂണിയനിൽ അംഗമായി.

2013 ജൂലൈ ഒന്നാം തിയതി ക്രൊയേഷ്യ യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻ അംഗത്വം നേടിയതോടെ യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻ അംഗരാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം 28 ആയി ഉയർന്നു.

കുറച്ചു കാലം കൊണ്ട് ബ്രിട്ടൻ ജനത ഇതിൽ നിന്ന് പിന്മാറണം എന്ന ആവശ്യം ഉയർന്നപ്പോൾ ,ബ്രിട്ടൻ അവിടെ വോട്ടെടുപ്പ് നടത്തി , 1,269,501 വോട്ടിന്റെ ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തിനാണ് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ജനത ചരിത്രപരമായ ഈ തീരുമാനമെടുത്തത്. ഇതിനായി നടത്തിയ ഹിതപരിശോധനയിൽ 52 ശതമാനം വോട്ടർമാർ (17,410,742)(17,410,742) പിന്മാറാനുള്ള തീരുമാനത്തെ അനുകൂലിച്ചു. യൂണിയനിൽ നിലനിൽക്കണമെന്ന് അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടത് 48 ശതമാനം (16,141241) വോട്ടർമാരാണ്.യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയനിൽനിന്നു പുറത്തുപോകണമെന്ന് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ജനത വിധിയെഴുതിയതോടെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ഡേവിഡ് കാമറൺ രാജി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
