I'm trying to migrate a VM from an ancient Ubuntu 10.04 server to a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 install, and I get the following error:
Unable to migrate guest: unsupported configuration: Only the first console can be a serial port

libvirtError: unsupported configuration: Only the first console can be a serial port
Dumping the VM's XML definition with virsh dumpxml
shows there are indeed two consoles defined:
...
<console type='pty' tty='/dev/pts/2'>

<target port='0'/>
</console>
<console type='pty' tty='/dev/pts/2'>
<source path='/dev/pts/2'/>
<target port='0'/>
</console>
...
I've tried editing the VM attributes, but no matter how I apply my edits, virsh dumpxml
and virsh edit
show the duplicate console entry. I've even tried manually editing the XML in /etc/libvirt/qemu/ and physically rebooting the host OS, but this doesn't change anything.
Is there any way to salvage this VM definition so it can be migrated?

That's quite strange. You should be able to delete one of them. Or you could try deleting them both. If you really need a serial console you can add it back later.

That's quite strange. You should be able to delete one of them. Or you could try deleting them both. If you really need a serial console you can add it back later.
